Rotherham is 14 minutes away by train
Barnsley is about 12 miles north of Sheffield, and Doncaster is 17 miles away, with a station that is a principal stop on the East Coast Main Line. In the city you have Sheffield station and the Supertram, which runs four lines including a tram-train. By road, the M1 runs along the eastern edge and the M18 joins Doncaster to it.
