Swingers Parties: Know the Room Before You Walk In

Hosted nights, venue parties and hotel weekends: how they work, who gets on the guest list and how to find your first.

A host, a guest list and a room picked with care

A swingers party is an adults-only night with a host, a guest list and house rules, held in a private home, a hired venue or a hotel. Somebody invites you, and that is the difference from a club, where a door policy decides.

Usually that makes a party smaller and more personal than a club night. The host chooses the crowd and sets the tone, so you know whose room you are walking into before you arrive. Think of a dinner party with a different ending, and one where nobody minds if you leave after the first course.

Four kinds of party, and one will suit you

Swinger parties come in four shapes, and the invitation rarely says which.

  • Hosted house party

A couple opens their home to a guest list they have chosen. Small and relaxed, with a host who knows every name and an invitation that means something.

  • Venue night

An organiser hires a bar, club or function room for one night and runs the door. Bigger than a house party, with a dance floor, a bar and staff on hand.

  • Hotel takeover

A group books a block of rooms and a function space for a weekend. You check in, mix at the hotel bar and retire to your own room when you choose.

  • Club theme night

A regular club puts on a night with a theme: masks, black and gold, lingerie. The dress code is the point, and the club's usual door policy still applies.

Get on the guest list: what hosts look for

A host wants a room where everyone is relaxed, so many ask a few questions before they say yes. None of it is an insult. It is the same reason a doorman checks the list: everyone inside has been looked at.

  • A short message about who you are and what you hope for.
  • A couple of photos, or a video call, so they know who is coming.
  • A recommendation from someone who has been to their parties.
  • A drink beforehand, to meet you in person.
  • Photo ID on the night.

Hosts also balance the room, which is why couples often find it easier to get in than singles. Say plainly who is coming, answer politely and never push for a yes.

Check the party too. Hear about it from a regular or meet the host first, be wary of anyone who asks for payment before you have even spoken, and keep your address private until your name is on the list. Our safety page explains how the lounge protects your details.

How to find a swinger party: meet the people who go

Many swingers events travel by word of mouth rather than public listing. The way in is to meet the people who pass the word.

  1. Say what you are after

Join, add photos and pick Parties, Clubs or Social Events among your interests. Couples who go to parties look for exactly those words.

  2. Chat with the regulars

Message couples near you and ask what they go to and what suits a first-timer. VIP members can filter by city, distance, experience level and what people are open to.

  3. Go together

A couple you have met can often put your name to a host. Meet them properly first, as our first swinger meet guide shows, and plan the night together in a VIP private group chat of up to 50 people.

What to wear and bring so you fit in

The invitation carries the dress code, so read it twice. Many nights ask for smart with a little daring, and theme nights set their own, from masks to all black. Dress one notch smarter than you think you need to: it is easier to relax a look than to fix an underdressed one.

  • Photo ID
  • Your name on the list
  • Condoms
  • A small bag
  • A taxi number
  • A spare layer

Your first hour: what happens when you arrive

A host or helper meets you at the door, ticks your name off and takes your coat. Expect a quick tour: the bar, the food, the bathroom, a quiet corner and whichever rooms are set aside for play. The host will give the house rules in a sentence or two, and then you are left to mingle.

Give yourself that first hour to read the room: talk to people, accept a drink, say yes to introductions. Nothing is expected of you that you wouldn't offer at any bar.

House rules that keep the night easy

  1. Consent is asked for, never assumed, and a no ends the conversation.
  2. Cameras and phones stay out of sight.
  3. Protection is expected. Hosts often put condoms out, but bring your own.
  4. Drink in moderation: hosts ask a guest who has had too much to leave.
  5. Doors work differently at each party, so ask the host. At some an open door is an invitation, at others it isn't.
  6. What happens at the party stays there, with no names or places shared outside.

The unwritten rules, and how to take a no gracefully, are in our swinger etiquette guide.

Single men: the surest way in is an invitation

Hosts balance a room, so single men are often the group with the tightest numbers. Some parties invite none, some admit a few they already know, and some accept a single man only when a couple has invited him.

If that is you, the plan is simple: be known. Chat with couples, be clear and polite, accept a no, and ask a regular to vouch for you. Couples who would like to bring someone along can read how to find a third, and swinging couples is the page for meeting couples first.

Party questions, answered at the door

What is a swingers party?

A swingers party is an adults-only night with a host, a guest list and house rules, held in a private home, a hired venue or a hotel. Couples and some singles are invited to socialise, and play happens only by agreement. Guests who just talk and dance are as welcome as anyone.

How do I find a swinger party?

Meet the people who go. Join Swingers Lounge, add Parties to your interests and chat with couples near you. Many swingers events are shared between people who know each other, so a recommendation from a regular is often your way onto a guest list. Ask which nights suit a first-timer.

Can single men go to swingers parties?

Sometimes. Some parties invite no single men, some admit a few the host already knows, and some accept a single man only when a couple has invited him. Being known, polite and recommended will do more for you than anything on your profile.

What do you wear to a swingers party?

Follow the dress code on the invitation. Many nights suggest smart with a little daring, and theme nights set their own, from masks to all black. If you are unsure, dress up a notch and ask the host what they expect.
