Before you meet
First Swinger Meet: A Drink, a Chat, Your Own Pace
A plan for meeting a couple or a single: the place, the message beforehand, the friend who knows and the way out.
Make the first meet the easy part
A first meet is not a night of play. It is an audition in both directions: do we like each other, do we make each other laugh, would we want a second meeting? Everything else can wait, and the couples worth meeting are glad to wait.
The lounge does the groundwork before you sit down together. You read profiles, check the verified badge and the behaviour rating, and chat in private at your own speed. By the time you pick a table, you should already know roughly who is turning up.
What a good first meet feels like
Easy. You talk about ordinary things as well as the lifestyle, and both sides ask questions and wait for the answers. Nobody steers the conversation towards the bedroom before the first drink is finished. When you stand up an hour later, each of you knows whether you would like another meeting, and you can say so, or not, without drama.
Signs to stay
They answer your questions and ask their own. They stick to the plan you agreed. They take a no, even a small one, without a flicker.
Signs to go
They push for somewhere private, a changed venue or one more drink. They ask for your address, or want you alone when you came as a pair. They sulk when you say no.
Pick a place and a time you control
Choose a busy bar or café in a town centre, ideally one you already know, and aim for early evening or a weekend afternoon. Fix an end time in advance: an hour or two is plenty. Skip private homes, hotel rooms and car parks until you have met at least once and still want to carry on.
Suggest the place yourself, so you are the one who knows the exits. If you are a single meeting a couple, meet both of them together, never one on their own.
Settle the details by message first
Agree the basics by message, so nobody arrives expecting something different. Cover that this is a drink and a chat, who is coming, when you will finish and how you will spot each other. A username and what you are wearing is enough. A rough sense of what each side is open to, from soft swap to simply meeting, can help, and the details can wait.
Keep the chat on the lounge until you have met. It flags attempts to move a conversation to another app, which is a common scam tactic, so treat the alert as a reason to slow down. Lines that work:
- "We'd enjoy a drink and a chat first, no expectations either way."
- "Does Thursday at seven suit? We'll be finished by nine."
- "We're a couple and we decide everything together, so we'd like to meet you both."
Your plan for the day, from the kitchen table to the taxi home
Agree your lines at home
Talk through your yeses, your nos and your plan if one of you wants to leave. Say it aloud once, over a coffee, not in the doorway.
Tell a friend
Give someone you trust the usernames, the place, the time and when you will message to say you are home.
Confirm on the day
Check the time and place by message. If the plan changes, you are allowed to say no to the new one.
Travel on your own
Get there and home by your own transport, or a taxi you booked, and turn down the offer of a lift.
Arrive first
Be a few minutes early, take a table with a view of the door and order something you can sip slowly.
Have the drink
Talk, laugh, ask questions. Pay for your own round so nobody feels they owe anything, and stop when the hour is up.
Decide apart, then together
On the way home, each say whether you would like a second meeting. A polite message the next day settles it either way.
The safety box: four moves worth making every time
Nothing here is paranoid. It is ordinary good sense.
- Tell a friend where you are, who you are with and when you will check in.
- Choose a public place and stay in it for the whole first meet.
- Use your own transport, so you can leave when you choose.
- Never share a home address, a workplace or a full name before you have met and decided you want to.
Your profile gives away a username and your nearest town, not your name or address, so keep it that way. Check the verified badge and behaviour rating before you reply, and block and report anyone who pushes. Our safety page lists every protection.
How to say no and leave on good terms
Decline before the meet ("Thanks for asking, we'll pass") or at the table ("We're going to head off now"). You owe no explanation, and anyone worth meeting accepts the answer first time.
Agree an exit line with your partner beforehand: a word or phrase that means "I'd like to go now", no questions asked. If someone follows you or won't accept a no, tell the venue's staff, then block and report them in the lounge. The swinger etiquette guide covers taking and giving a no in more detail.
Straight answers before the first drink
What do you say at a first swinger meet?
Start with ordinary small talk: work, weekends, how you found the lounge. Then ask what they enjoy about the lifestyle and what they are hoping for, and be honest about your own pace. Nothing has to be settled at the table. The aim is to enjoy each other's company.
Where should you meet another couple for the first time?
Somewhere busy and public, such as a town-centre bar or café, in the early evening or on a weekend afternoon. Pick a place you know, travel on your own, and avoid homes, hotel rooms and any spot you couldn't leave easily. Tell a friend which one you chose.
Do you have to play at a first swinger meet?
No. A first meet is for conversation. If it goes well you arrange a second one, and the pace after that is whatever you both agree. A couple who expect more than a chat at the first meeting are a reason to leave, not a reason to stay.
How do you say no to a swinger meet?
Briefly and kindly: "Thanks for asking, but we're going to pass." You don't owe a reason. If they keep pushing, stop replying, block them on the lounge and report them. A clear no that is respected the first time is the test of good manners in the scene.
