Plymouth is about 36 miles south-west of Exeter and 193 miles from London. Exeter is Devon's county town and a cathedral and university city, where the M5 ends and carries on as the A38 to Plymouth. The A30 heads west.

Truro is 232 miles west-south-west of London, and on six nights a week the Night Riviera sleeper joins London to Penzance.
